Volunteers

Immediate Volunteers Needs

Do you know someone that might help with....
  • We are getting many calls requesting help with Light Housekeeping and Friendly Visiting in the Corning/Painted Post area. Unfortunately we are a little light on volunteers gifted to do those things in that part of the county. If you or someone you know would like to serve in that capacity we would love to hear from you.

  • Wednesdays seem to be a particularly hard day to find drivers to fill appointments, notably in the southeastern part of the county (Hornby, Caton, Lindley, Coopers Plains, Corning, Painted Post). Sometimes these appointments are with specialists and can’t be rescheduled for another day. Take a look at your calendar and see if you can spare a couple hours one or two Wednesdays a month!

  • We are in need of a couple more drivers in both the Canisteo/Greenwood and Wayland/Cohocton areas. We have some great volunteers that are taking multiple trips every week. Words can’t express how much we appreciate their selflessness, but we don’t want to burn them out by overworking them! Might you be could lighten the load by taking someone to town once or twice a month?

  • We are looking for some fairly tech savvy people to help connect elderly care recipients with loved ones in distant places via Video Conferencing (Skype, Google Hangouts, FaceTime, etc.). What fun would that be?!

  • Our Ramp building crew is looking for some apprentices with strong backs. We are currently only able to build them in the western slice of the county (Arkport/Hornell/Canisteo), but the only thing holding us back from building in the rest of the county is lack of personnel. If you want to join our existing crew, or come and learn from them and then start building in other parts of Steuben County, please give us a call!

How You Can Help

Who We Serve

Faith in Action Steuben County provides services to the elderly living with special needs of Steuben County, New York. We seek to help those not receiving similar assistance from other programs/social services. Our goal is to be a person's last option, in a most compassionate and caring way. When family members are unavailable, and when other options have been exhausted, Faith in Action can step in and give non-hands on assistance. Often, if we are unable to give the needed assistance, we can refer you to someone that can.

To get a better picture of who we serve, note the following statistics of our care recipients:

  • 85% Female
  • 15% Male
  • 33% between 60-74
  • 55% over age 75
  • 66% live alone
